Police rescue kidnapped medical doctor in Ebonyi
Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State, Peace Abdallah, yesterday said another medical doctor kidnapped by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday has been rescued.
The commissioner in a statement issued through the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Okafor George stated that the hoodlums kidnapped the victim at gun point and took him to an unknown destination. The kidnap brought to three, the number of such cases in recent time.
The rescued victim, Dr Johnson Obunna is a staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki. However, a source who did not want his name mentioned told newsmen that the victim, who was a former chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Ebonyi State, escaped from his captors.
But, according to the police, a combined team of SARS, anti kidnapping squad and patrol teams from Central Police Station and the Area Command, Abakaliki, rescued the victim.
The commissioner, in the statement, noted that efforts are on to arrest the fleeing hoodlums just as she urged the general public to always assist police with vital information to enable police fight crimes in the state
