Elechi didn’t lead protest against ward congresses results — Ebonyi govt
EBONYI State government yesterday debunked the allegation that Governor Martin Elechi led a group of party faithful to a protest the outcome of the November 1 2014 ward congresses results at the Headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP National Secretariat, Abuja.
Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday upheld the result of the delegates elected at the held in the state on November 1, 2014.
In suit No. FHC /ABJ/CS/830/2014, the presiding Judge, Hon. Justice A. F. A. Ademola upheld the earlier result declared by the Electoral Committee headed by Dr Musa Babayo and that of the Appeal Panel.
It also debunked the media reports claiming low turnout during the recent rally in support of President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election organized by the state government last weekend in Abakaliki, the State capital.
It described the reports as: “syndicated media fabrications which are all part of a cocktail of falsehood by the Abuja based coalition of aggrieved politicians who are desperate to blackmail Governor Elechi for aligning himself with the popular decision of Ebonyi people to support Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu as consensus candidate for 2015 governorship election”.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Onyekachi Eni, said in a statement titled ‘Governor Elechi is in Abakaliki and working’, said “By the mammoth and unprecedented crowd that attended last Saturday’s mega rally at the Abakaliki Township Stadium, Ebonyi people eloquently spoke about their support for President Jonathan and Governor Martin Elechi in their developmental initiatives.”
